Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

I have put 85,000 miles on it in 3 and a half years and not had any major problems. It has excellent power (V8) and not unreasonable gas mileage.

The best part of a Jeep is "Full Time All Wheel Drive" that does not need any help from the driver to keep the vehicle moving forward under all conditions.

The Grand Cherokee is what a real SUV should be like. Excellent balance of features, reasonable price, all the powers you might need, fine, yet just plain tuff. Not a vehicle for everybody. This is a mans vehicle. Rugged, strong, fast, with a can do anything and drive over you attitude. If you want an economic vehicle go for the toys SUV’s like the RAV4, Escape; or a minivan with a SUV look like the Pilot or MDX (off course, dont go off road cause theyre too fragile). If you you want the real thing, there’s nothing like a Jeep. The first one and still the best 4 by 4 period.

Great car! The interior is nice, but not lavish or overbearing in its accessories. Good engine, the 4.0L will get you where you want to go while not being horrible on gas millege like the 4.7L or 4.7LHO. I would highly reccomend a Grand Cherokee Columbia Edition to anyone who was searching for a vehicle.

  • So Much Better - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought this Jeep in Sept. The only problem that I had was that the passenger side window had a mind of its own when going up, dealer fixed at oil change. Mileage has been at a low of 14.9 to 22.5. Vehicle is quiet and has enough power for the everyday driver.

  • A Story of Disillusionment - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Spec-wise and value-wise I was really looking forward to the 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland as a replacement to my 2000 Grand Cherokee Limited. Instead, I was REALLY disappointed at the dealership today when I saw it and drove it! I was horrified to see that the wonderful Inferno Red finish was trimmed all the way around in cheap black plastic, ugh. A $46K vehicle trimmed in black plastic, who the $%^& in the design shop thought THAT was a good idea ?! I thought maybe it could be redeemed with a test drive of its 5.7L Hemi-V8 though. Yet again I was horrified. This behemoth with a 360hp/390lb-ft powerhouse felt so sluggish it felt like a small V6 with bad turbo lag, awful, just awful.

1995 Grand Cherokee - 152,000 miles and still going strong. New Grand Cherokee same model V8 - loaded, better ride, acceleration, interior etc. More room in rear with spare under floor. If it continues to perform like the 95, Ill buy another one.

As A Woman I want a vehicle that I feel I can rely on, makes me feel safe no matter what type of weather or terrian I have to drive in and wont have any machanical failures. I fit in it and can see. I hope this truck lasts a life time!!

  • Gas-Guzzler - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

As others have mentioned, when I purchased the vehicle it was getting over 18 miles to the gallon city. I am not a lead foot and after tank of gas #3 it is down to 12-13 miles to the gallon according to the vehicles own trip computer. At this point I am taking it back to the dealership for a diagnostic test. I love the car, but if they cant correct the problem I will pursue the "Lemon Law" option since I wont be able to afford to drive it.

  • My wife is now the coolest soccer mom! - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Bought almost new (4300 miles) and my wife and I love it! Traded in a 2003 Suburban Z71 and not looking back. Same fuel economy, no third row (we didnt need it), but the SRT8 is easier to park and way more fun to drive. My wife was considering the BMW X5 and the Lexus RX350, but she always had a soft spot for the older Grand Cherokees. I pointed out the SRT8 had better seats and better performance than the X5 (shes an aggressive driver for a girl :) and she didnt believe me. One test drive and she was hooked. I wasnt looking forward to driving a minivanish Lexus or even the more performance Bimmer (and I own a 540i.) But this is truly a vehicle that both of us love driving!
